SnmpTrapGen supports generation of a simple compressed (gzip) output file containing SNMP traps from network logs (included in the output file) or specified files (output file). The following traps can be generated:
1. v1 (RFC1213) traps
2. v2 traps (v2, v2c, v3)
The tool supports logging of SNMP packets to an output file and performs compression (gzip) of the output file. To log/compress a file, you need to specify it as the logfile and an output file.

SnmpSet is a command-line utility which allows you to perform SNMP set requests (see or The following SNMP set requests are supported:
SetCommunity, SetPassword and SetSecurityLevel
Besides that, it supports generating a script, in which you specify the community name, password and security level and the utility will set these parameters on all remote SNMP-enabled devices. You can modify the script to set the remote SNMP-enabled devices’ community, passwords, security level and other parameters.
In addition to that, you can use the current working directory as the community name and use a password and a security level from a.txt file.
There are many useful examples for you to play around with the set operations.
SnmpSet has one big advantage over some other tools: it supports “on the fly” and “off the line” configuration, i.e. it can receive configuration parameters in the command-line while working. Example:
snmpset -c communityName -p passwordFile.txt -s securityLevel
This command means:
- “Set the snmp communityName to communityName.”
- “Set the snmp password to passwordFile.txt”
